Routes

Ready-made road trips around Serbia: a day-by-day plan, a budget guideline, key stops, and a map. The country is best explored by car - it opens up what’s slow to reach by public transport: the Iron Gate gorge and Golubac on the Danube, the Drina viewpoints of Tara, the Šargan Eight railway and Drvengrad near Mokra Gora, and the monastery-and-wine trails of Fruška Gora.

How to choose a direction. The north - Novi Sad, Fruška Gora and Sremski Karlovci for monasteries and wine; the west - Zlatibor as a base for Mokra Gora, the Šargan Eight and Tara National Park; the east - the Đerdap gorge with Golubac and Lepenski Vir along the Danube; the south - Niš, Devil’s Town and the slopes of Kopaonik. Most loops start and end in Belgrade (BEG airport), which keeps the logistics simple.

Season and preparation. The best time for most routes is from late spring to autumn. In winter the mountain sections (Zlatibor, Kopaonik, the Tara plateau) see snow and the ski resorts come alive, but some roads are harder - check conditions before setting off. The mileage, days, and budget in the cards are guidelines, not exact measurements: it all depends on the number of stops, the season, and accommodation.
